Bio

Brian Sabel is an independent singer-songwriter - originally from the Midwest - who calls Memphis, TN home. He makes Indie/Folk Rock with nods to 80's college rock from his home studio, formerly under the name Scarftough.

Deeply influenced by his Iowa upbringing, Brian’s songs draw from heartland rock of John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen, Minnesota punk of The Replacements and Hüsker Dü, Chicago 90’s alt-rock of Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair, and the early days of the famed "Omaha sound". Over the years, he has experimented with a variety of musical styles searching for his own voice as a songwriter. Forays into punk, blues, experimental jazz, electronic music, and lo-fi all influenced his style but never fully satisfied him.

Eventually he came full circle to the sound that brought him to music in the first place – the turbulent intersection between mainstream pop rock and indie rock. His EP experiments as Scarftough shows Brian bringing his rock and pop sensibilities front and center. Equally comfortable in intimate acoustic performances or in front of a roaring rock band, he puts on a great show in any setting.

By shedding the stage name and preparing a full-length album, Brian is making a statement about the quality of his songs. Stay up-to-date on his progress by joining the mailing list. Support more new music at his Patreon page!
